Pittsburgh Hymn

Panza Gallery, Millvale, PA

Pittsburgh Hymn was performed at Panza Gallery in Millvale, PA as part of the Pittsburgh Performance Festival. The work is a ritual that contemplates my personal connection to the city of Pittsburgh and the heritage of my father’s family who have been residents of the region for multi-generations as coal miners, steelworkers, and artisans. The features a modest tableau and a quilted wall hanging created by my aunt Ann Quinn, a local folk artist living in the hills outside of Monroeville, PA. My performance incorporates Ukrainian bread-making practices and explores an often-muddled personal history marked by unrest. The piece seeks reconciliation through traditions and aesthetics, addressing intangible narratives, trauma and losses of previous generations.
